Building your first companion

After signing up, the character builder walks you through four steps: name, personality preset (or a custom description), physical traits, and a starting scene. You can accept the defaults at every step and edit them later, so don't feel like you need to get everything perfect on the first pass.

Personality presets are a good starting point if you're not sure what you want -- they're written to already feel distinct rather than generic. If you write a custom personality description instead, keep it to a few clear traits; very long or contradictory descriptions tend to produce less consistent responses.

You can create more than one companion on paid plans. Free accounts are limited to one active companion at a time, but you can delete and recreate a companion at no cost if you want to start over.
